What sad news. I have been lucky to know Stephen since we were at school, even then he was a gentleman - a kind, thoughtful and funny friend. Devoted to Jude then and ever since, he loved his kids - and everyone elses! He was never happier than with his family. I am so happy to have known him and that we as a family had him in our lives. Very sorry to say good bye to him today, but we'll stand with Jude and his lovely Tom and Sam and do it together. Xxxxx

Sitting on the other side of the world thinking of you Steve…we loved you from the moment Sol & Sammy became best mates. Both the word *sideline* (we all stood endlessly on one together) & Manchester Utd can’t be uttered in our house without thinking of you smiling, laughing or yelling. You were one half of a wonderful couple who took us all (especially Sol) through our Lytham years with joy, endless stories, a word on anything & everything and a true kindness. Our second home Lytham was life changing because of the friendships we made- for that we are forever thankful & will miss you greatly Steve. The Mander-Jones’ xx

I was 7 years old when I met Steve. Sammy had taken me straight in when we moved from Aus, and that ended up in plenty of afternoons after school playing PlayStation at the house they were renting whilst getting renovations. Steve, Judy, Tom and Sammy where like my English family. There wasn't a day we weren't running in muddy after playing footy at the park. Or begging the Dads to take us to a United game, or the skatepark, or even the pub to watch the footy. Steve always welcomed me into the Smiths home like another son. And recently when travelling I came back and was lucky enough to spend more time living with such a great family. I can't thank Steve and Jude enough for the impact they have had on my life. Sending all my love to Sam, Tom and Jude in this time. We'll be raising a glass to Steve back in here in Aus xxx
